Online Detainee Locator Service

ODLS allows the public to conduct online Internet-based search to locate detained individuals who were arrested for immigration violations. Such online search allows you to determine whether an individual is presently detained by ICE. Once ICE confirms that this individual in its custody, the online service should allow you to know at which facility the person is being detained.

ODLS is a web-based system that is accessible from an Internet browser and may be used by any member of the public. ODLS is scheduled to deploy in June 2010, and will be accessible by visiting ICE’s public website (http://www.ice.gov/locator). The ODLS extract is designed to updated approximately every 20 minutes.

Once located, a family member or your attorney may call ICE. See ICE offices exact locations and phone numbers listed at the end of this article.

If you or your attorney contacts ICE, we recommend that you ask the following:

1. Confirm your family member is detained by ICE
2. Confirm the exact location and phone number of the jail where you may see your detained family member
3. Get the name of the officer in charge of the detainee
4. Ask about the reasons for his/her arrest by ICE
5. Most importantly, ask what amount of bond, if any, ICE is demanding for his/her release. If you cannot afford the bond set by ICE, an Immigration Judge generally imposes lesser amount of bond if your family member is eligible for a bond - not subject to mandatory detention. Waiting to see an immigration judge however and holding an immigration bond hearing may take time
6. Be sure to mention to ICE officer any specific medical needs your family member requires
7. If the person is under specific medications, be sure to take the medications to the ICE officer
8. Finally get the Alien # assigned to him/her for future reference
